On HW Edinburgh campus there is a food option for every craving! Here is a quick guide to all of the food outlets in the Uni, including some tips and our favourite picks for when you want something quick, close-by and delicious.
Food outlets in the main building
Central
This is the main food court on campus. You will find it in the Hugh Nisbet building, on your left side before going down the stairs toward Student Shop, and right in front of Lecture Theatre 4.
The options here are numerous, and from all over the world. They serve soups, customisable burgers, chicken & fries, Chinese-style noodles or rice, and even Japanese curry. Every Friday there is also the special appearance of the flakiest and freshest Fish & Chips, with a proper tartare sauce too.
And last but not least. Every Thursday Central gives out free soup with 2 bread rolls to students and staff.
Elements
This outlet is on the lower floor of Hugh Nisbet building, right next to the student shop. Their main and most popular offering are their made-to-order sandwiches and wraps.
Kind of similarly to eateries like Subway, at Elements you choose your base (a baguette or a wrap) and you then build your own creation with as many veggies and sauces as you wish, plus cheese and up to two types of protein. There are plenty of halal and vegetarian-friendly options.
But Elements also offer salads and loaded baked potatoes, which you can build up similarly to the breads.
And for drinks, check out their special and exclusive smoothies!
Café Brio
This lovely café sits just at the top of the Central food court and serves a wide range of coffees and teas, hot chocolate, cakes, pastries, soup and snack bars. Watch out for special morning deals, as they often make combined and convenient deals for any coffee + a slice of the cake of the day.
Due to its location, it's one of the best spots to hang out with friends before or after lectures.
The Piece
This café is located next to the lecture theatres 2 and 3 in Hugh Nisbet. You can find here the full range of none other than Starbucks' coffees! As well as breakfast wraps, sweet snacks and lunch paninis.
Food in in other parts of campus
Bistro 1776 (Edinburgh Business School)
Although it is located in the Edinburgh Business School building- on your left side on the way to library starting from the bus stop- the Bistrot is open to all students, staff and visitors.Their ,emu changes almost every day, including options such as a hot main dish (usually a stew, curry or chilli with rice, or a Scottish classic), a deluxe wrap and stuffed focaccia, and a fresh "salad of the day". For sides, you can't miss everyone's favourite: sweet potato fries!
Da Vinci
This is the café in the Postgraduate building, open to everyone and serving hot drinks, soup, snacks and sandwiches. Very accessible for the students that do not wish to walk all the way back to Hugh Nisbet.
Geordies (Student Union)
The Student Union's pub-style eatery offers a wide range of burgers, wraps, loaded fries and also chicken wings and nuggets from 12 pm all the way to 11 pm during the semester.
Here you can also get drinks with your friends after a long day of studying and even play some darts or pool.
Libertys (Student Union)
Libertys is the café in the Student Union, with indoor and outdoor seating. Apart from breakfast pastries and hot drinks, they also have delicious smoothies, toasties, ciabattas, bakes and soup.
This is one of the cosiest yet most lively spots on campus, ideal to grab a snack with friends after taking a walk around the Loch. You can also find lots of board games to play with while seated.
As you can see, there is something yummy available for every preference here on campus, and at student-friendly prices!
And if none of these options tickles your fancy (impossible!) or you turn up a little too late and they've closed (happens to the best of us), you can always pop by the Student Shop in Hugh Nisbet- open on most days till 9pm- and grab a quick bite.
